6th grade students learn about the positive and negative impacts of building a copper mine the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

How will the building of a new copper mine in the Upper Peninsula impact all of Michigan, its? people and its? environment as well as Canada?

How can people voice their opinion about a governmental decision?

Objectives

The students will:

  • Understand the positives and negatives of building a mine to both Canada and Michigan.
  • Discuss article bias.
  • Determine and write to a specific audience.
  • Use proper keyboarding skills.
  • Select an appropriate graph type.
  • Analyze and summarize graph data.
