Seminole Showcase
|
With such amazing staff and students, great things are always happening!
- State of the Art Building
In the 2004-2005 school year, Seminole moved into a new new facility.
Every classroom in wired for the internet, sound systems and projection systems.
This building allows teachers to instruct students with the most up-to-date
technology available.
Come and visit for a "grand tour"!
- Read Across America
During the reading month of March, Seminole celebrates Read Across America. Not only
is this Dr.
Seuss' birthday, but
it is also a day to celebrate and encourage children to keep reading. The celebration
is organized by Mr.
Gary Messel, a 4rd grade teacher. Parents, former staff, and local
celebrities are invited to come in and read to the students. Please e-mail
Mr. Messel if you are interested in participating in this worthwhile program.
- Music Concert
Throughout the year, Seminole students, parents, and staff are entertained by
wonderful music concerts. Each grade level is able to share their musical
talents on stage for friends and family.
- Student Council
Our children have the
opportunity to see democracy in action. To be a member of the Student Council,
children are nominated, campaign and then are "voted" in to office. The goal of
the student council is to teach children the importance of helping others. They
sponsor many out reach programs; build student spirit; and assist the moderators
in choosing fun activities for fundraisers. Been roller skating lately? Join our
student council at Staking Forum for a fun evening of camaraderie and skating!
They also sponsored the Valentine Sucker sale that was a huge success. We want
to thank all of the hard workers in our Seminole Student Council!

- Field Trips
Each year, our
students have the opportunity to take several field trips to Zoo's, Museums, the
Farm, Live Musicals, Plays, and other educational points of interest. The
Seminole teachers work hard to coordinate the field trips with grade level
content expectations while providing excitement for our children. These extended
opportunities for the children and parents bring the classroom lessons alive!
Please see pictures of one of our Kindergarten classes visiting the zoo and our
Fourth Grade visiting the Science Center by clicking on "Field
Trips".
- Student Writers and
Spellers
Students at Seminole are always working to improve their writing and
spelling skills. One way Seminole staff
encourages this is by publishing student work and entering contests. Out of our many talented writers, some
students' stories were selected to be published in Kaleidoscope, a publication of the Michigan Reading Association.
Seminole also participates in the Macomb Daily Spelling Bee.
- Parent Teacher Club Hosts Annual Field Day
At the end of each school year, our PTC sponsors an all day fun filled field
day, Students are able to participate in a number of indoor and
outdoor activities. Our day of fun generally includes a book walk, craft time, sack races, relay races, and tug-o-war. This much anticipated
event was all thanks to our hard-working and dedicated PTC. Our PTC hosts many
activities for the Seminole Tigers throughout the year. We have enjoyed Writing
Assemblies, Donuts with Santa, Living Science live animals and many more
educational events. Again our hats go off to the wonderful volunteer week of the
PTC!
- Race for the Cure
Seminole staff does many outreach programs as a team. They participated in the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure in support and honor of family, friends,
staff members that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. In order to support our team and encourage awareness in our children, Seminole's student council participated
in "Pinking Up the Town" by decorating pink ribbons to hang along the route.
