Parent Involvement Policy
The staff of King Academy strongly encourages parents and guardians to take an active part in their child’s education. At King Academy, parents are an integral part of leadership decisions as members of the School Improvement Team, Parent Teacher Committee and School Health Team. They assist in developing and implementing the Title I plan, play an important role in organizing school wide activities and developing our school health program.
Annually, parents shall complete a School-Parent compact. This compact delineates how parents, the entire school staff and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. The compact states the schools’ responsibility to provide high quality curriculum and instruction and parent responsibilities for supporting their child’s learning. This compact is presented at Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences where it is signed. It is also reviewed and initialed at Spring Conferences.
To encourage parental participation, we offer meetings and activities both after school and in the evenings. Parents are invited to participate through teacher and school newsletters, online newsletters, website, electronic school sign and personal communication in activities such as Title I family nights, Parent-Teacher conferences, Parent-Teacher Committee meetings, classroom volunteers and field trips.
Title I parent Involvement activities are held each year. At these activities, parents are introduced to methods/activities that will increase their child’s academic performance. Each family receives materials that when used consistently at home, will assist the student in achieving in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition, parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers via e-mail, telephone calls and in person.
To measure our success at providing programs and interventions, parents are encouraged to complete program evaluations. These evaluations are conducted after Title I Parent Involvement activities. Parents are also surveyed annually to ascertain their views on our programs. This policy will be distributed to all parents at our Fall Title I – Meet the Teacher Night, Family Math Night and Family Game Night. At these meetings, all parents are made aware of our Title I program activities and are encouraged to participate.
We know that by working collaboratively with parents, all students will be successful and achieve to very high levels.
