In order to be eligible for membership a student must be a junior and senior with a scholastic average of 3.20 or higher. This is just the first step in becoming a member. Beyond their high scholastic achievement they must exhibit strong attributes in the areas of leadership, character, and commitment to community service well above that expected of their peers.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SELECTION PROCEDURE AND REGULATIONS Under the rules established by the Mount Clemens High School and the National Honor Society (NHS), you are eligible to be considered for membership in the Mount Clemens High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. National Honor Society membership eligibility is based on three or more semester grades. All second semester sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher are being considered for membership. Please be aware that this is only a notification that you are being considered for membership, and returning the student activity form does not imply or assure automatic acceptance into the NHS. Each student who returns the information form will receive a numerical score as a result of the information provided in each of the four categories designated by the National Honor Society. The four categories are: 1. GRADE POINT AVERAGE: To be eligible for membership in the NHS, you must have a GPA higher than 3.2. This will be based on a scale of 4.0 selection points for a GPA of 4.0. 2. SERVICE: Each service resume will be evaluated by a faculty committee who will assign selection points from 4.0 to 0.0 based on the quantity and quality of school and community service activities and awards. 3. LEADERSHIP: All MCHS faculty members will be given ballots containing the names of all eligible candidates. Each faculty member is asked to rate the leadership abilities of those candidates they know will, again on a scale of 4.0 to 0.0. These will be summed and averaged to achieve a composite score for leadership. 4 CHARACTER: This will be evaluated using the method described above for leadership.
All four scores will be added to produce a total selection score. The faculty selection committee, which consists of five voting and one ex officio member, will use these totals to determine membership in the NHS. Students will be notified in a tapping ceremony soon after the selection process is completed.
