Middle School Curriculum
The middle school years are an exciting time for students. It is during this time that students prepare academically for high school. By the end of the eighth grade, students should be ready to be independent learners in high school, ready to learn and research on their own.
As with the elementary school, students in middle school will learn the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts and mathematics. In the middle school, the Common Core State Standards also begin to address specific literacy standards for each subject - that's right, each subject. That's because literacy is a requirement in all content areas and the CCSS support this.
In grades 6-8, our students will learn from the Core Knowledge curriculum, a research-based curriculum designed to build content knowledge. Why is this important? Content knowledge is the number one factor for students in learning to read and understand - in any content area.
