Superintendent
Meet Julian Roper, Sr.
A proud Detroit native, Julian Roper Sr. brings a wealth of experience, passion, and visionary leadership to his role as Superintendent of Mount Clemens Community Schools. Now in his third year leading the district, Roper is proud of the momentum the Mount Clemens community has built together—anchored in unity, purpose, and a steadfast commitment to doing what’s best for students, families, and staff.
Before joining Mount Clemens, Roper served as principal at both Peck Elementary and Wolfe Middle School in Center Line Public Schools. He began his educational journey in the Detroit Public Schools, where he wore many hats giving him a deep understanding of the complex needs of school communities. In 2009, he stepped into school leadership as the founding assistant principal and later principal of the YMCA’s Detroit Leadership Academies.
Upon arriving in Mount Clemens, Roper launched his tenure with a clear and strategic focus: listen with purpose, learn quickly, reflect strategically, and act boldly. His 90-day entry plan emphasized trust-building, organizational effectiveness, and laying the groundwork to elevate student achievement across the district. Today, those guiding principles continue to shape his work as the district evolves into a model of equity, excellence, and innovation.
Roper holds a Bachelor of Science from Grand Valley State University, along with both a Master of Arts and Educational Specialist degree from Wayne State University. A graduate of Detroit Western International High School, he remains deeply rooted in the values of hard work, perseverance, and community.
Above all, Roper is passionate about family and personal growth. He is a devoted husband and proud father of three beautiful children. His leadership is grounded in the belief that developing the whole child is at the heart of any great school system. As he often says, “Tell me what you pay attention to, and I’ll tell you who you are.” In Mount Clemens, we pay attention to our people—and that’s what defines us.
